We take pride and pleasure in our work because we know that we have the expertise to find and solve any problem completely and efficiently. Whether it is your home or office, we can make the air you breathe fresher, safer, healthier and cheaper. This is our goal and our promise.

As the owner and founder of Benchmark I have twenty-five years experience in every facet of commercial and residential construction. I hold the class “A” Masters certification issued by the State of Texas which is the highest license attainable. We are certified to service and install any and all equipment. Air conditioning is the most complicated aspect of any building because its efficiency depends on how well the building is functioning as a whole. Each home or office is like a complex machine, requiring that many parts all work together to shelter us from the outdoors. Within that complex machine different gases are being generated that have to be balanced with just the right amount of outside air. This can be tricky. If there is too much fresh air, the owners will be paying to heat and cool the outdoors. If there is too little fresh air, the people inside will suffer and perhaps become ill.

Just one example will illustrate what can happen when one part of a building is faulty. I was called to evaluate a house where the adults and children were experiencing much more illness than they had ever had before living there. The air in their home was dank and unpleasant. I found very high humidity and traced the problem to underground ductwork that was hard to reach. It was in unstable ground and half-filled with stagnant water that was breeding mold and fungus . We moved the ductwork to the attic with a simpler design, and now the family has a dry, clean home. They’re energy bills were reduced, and best of all, they’re no longer sick.

Since the proper balance depends on so many factors, any skilled evaluation of air quality requires mastery of almost every mechanical trade, including carpentry, roofing, concrete, plumbing and electrical. In addition, there must be knowledge of structural engineering, chemistry and physics.
My background gives me this knowledge. I mastered electronics working hands on for MTI, Marty Electronics, 3-M, and Abbot Laboratories. I have designed and built several large scale commercial water features and have gained experience as a general contractor while building new homes, restoring historic homes, and working in commercial finish out construction. I continue to visit air conditioning manufacturing factories to observe first hand the quality that goes into various products and to attend factory training schools in order to keep up with all the latest advancements in HVAC technology.

My experience is varied because my favorite hobby has always been problem solving. And I have always been good at it. My German grandfather gave me a real appreciation for fine craftsmanship and the perfection of a precisely made machine. When I was young, I found I could fix just about anything broken and make it start working again, so I spent all my time investigating how everything works.

I love what I do because I am able to use everything I have ever learned. Every day and every job is a new and exciting challenge. And the final pleasure is in knowing that I am filling a true need and leaving the people I serve happier than I found them.
